Qtopia Memorial: Early Unrealised Proposal

An early proposal for the Qtopia, HIV/AIDS memorial.

There are strong through-lines to the final memorial from this easly proposal and much of what I love about this early vision remains in the memorial as it stands in Darlinghust today.

basic concept

Breaking the screen down into smaller elements, creates a stronger visual dynamic and better use if the space.

In this visualisations all screens are facing outwards in parallel to the wall and are in a number of sizes that content will slowly pulse in and out of. There is the potential to experiment with the possibility of angling them slightly in order to radiate from the centre

A tall narrow screen, behind all of the others, provides a mood and colour wash to the space and a back-lit glow that changes over time with the material.

Arrangement and sizing will be further iterated and prototyped. Initial views as proof of concept.

potential use of tension poles (floor to roof)

Chromed poles would reflect the rear colour panel and movement in the screens nicely. The layout of these would be designed to create multiple views "through" the layers.

or Hanging and floor mounted poles

Though this loses some of the visual dynamics of the full length poles (and would be more of an engineering challenge than tension poles)

and a view from the second floor
